Electric cars can and should be the way of the future because they are a cheap, easy way to solve our energy crisis. Naturally that will have to be coupled with an increase in energy production from non-fossil fuel sources like nuclear (really the only practical one). In a country with tons of nuclear plants, which by the way are very safe, vehicles powered by big batteries makes sense financially and could even eliminate our need for foreign oil. Oh yeah, and if you are an environmental wacko who buys into the global warming crap, you can feel good that you are saving the world.
